News & Events - New Accounts Press Release

TeleChem shows explosive new accounts growth.

Sunnyvale, CA, February 16, 2004 – TeleChem International, Inc. released figures for new accounts growth in 2004, revealing the strongest growth in company history.  For the first 6 weeks of 2004, TeleChem added 100 new Life Sciences accounts, marking the shortest time to add 100 new accounts in the company’s 10-year history. TeleChem’s ArrayIt® product line is used by more than 3,000 regular customers and is the most widely used brand name in the microarray industry. Microarrays are small glass chips that contain DNA and protein molecules used for biological research and diagnostics.  The ArrayIt® product line is used in essentially every academic, biotechnology, industrial, and medical diagnostics organization in the world. The company has traditionally added 8-10 new accounts per week, so the spike of 100 new accounts (16.7 per week) to begin the 2004 was surprising and signaled positive signs for the first quarter and beyond.

René Schena, CEO of TeleChem International, Inc. responded to the new accounts report in this way. "My husband gave me a nice Valentine’s Day gift this year, but receiving news of our accounts expansion on February 14th made me just as happy.  We have seen a few trends during the past quarter that help explain why we have added new accounts faster than in previous years.  First, we are beginning to see some consolidation in the microarray industry, and in this respect new users are adopting ArrayIt® products more quickly than in years past. We have also had recent success defending infringement of our 946’ patent, which covers our microarray manufacturing technology including microarray spotting pins and printheads.  With a major infringer exiting the microarray industry, we have seen an increase in the sale of our patented technology from both a new and current accounts perspective. As we continue to successfully defend our patented products against other infringers, we expect to see continued growth of new accounts for our patented and proprietary ArrayIt® products. We have also initiated expedited sales and customer support programs to service our expanding customer base, giving customers quality, price and service. The three factors taken together help explain how we have been able to add 100 new accounts in an improving but challenging economy.  As always, I have to tip my hat to a very talented staff for hitting the ground running in 2004.”
