Products - Microarray Substrates & Slides - SuperMask 16 and 24
SuperMask Substrates are an exciting new innovation from ArrayIt® that provide atomically flat glass substrate slides with ultra-thin hydrophobic masks for 16 or 24 or separate reaction areas or wells on a single substrate slide. SuperMask allows users to print and hybridize 16 or 24 separate microarrays per substrate slide, allowing high-throughput analysis for research and diagnostics. The SuperMask hydrophobic boundaries are highly durable and availaible with SuperClean 2, SuperAmine 2, SuperAldehyde 2 and SuperEpoxy 2 surface chemistries for the full spectrum of DNA and protein microarray applications.
Product Description SuperMask Substrates are manufactured using ArrayIt® SuperClean 2 glass substrates that provide superior homogenous topography for DNA and protein microarray applications. SuperMask Substrates are designed to empower processing and analysis of multiple samples of 16 or 24 individual microarray experiments on a single microarray substrate slide 25 x 76 mm. Available in all surface chemistries to meet every application, the substrates are partitioned into individual wells using an ultra-thin 75 µm chemically resistant hydrophobic mask. At 75 µm in height, the hydrophobic mask is sufficiently thin to fit into any microarray printer or scanner, and yet of sufficient height and hydrophobicity to prevent cross contamination. The matte black mask finish and unique chemical properties prevent contributions to background noise in microarray scans.
Product Use SuperMask Substrate Slides may be used either with or without additional hardware to partition the wells. In the absence of additional hardware, the SuperMask well volume is 10-100 µl depending on the surface chemistry and reaction buffer used, and such reactions are performed using a small droplet in each well with the SuperMask hydrophobic mask serving to partition each of the 16 or 24 wells on the substrate. SuperMask Substrate Slides may also be used in conjunction with the multiple microarray hardware products MMH4x24, MMH4x16, AHC1x24 and AHC1x16. In addition to the 16-well and 24-well patterns, custom SuperMask Substrate patterns can be manufactured to meet your specific needs. Please contact us directly at arrayit@arrayit.com to discuss custom SuperMask designs.
Microarrayer programming and detection Manufacturing microarrays into the 16-well and 24-well SuperMask Substrates can be accomplished easily with both the SpotBot® 2 and NanoPrint microarrayer product lines. Hybridized microarrays can be scanned using our SpotLight and Laser scanners, or microarray scanners from third parties that support the standard glass substrate slide format. See Figure 1 for the physical layout of SuperMask 16 and SuperMask 24 Substrates.
Figure 1. Shown is the physical layout of SuperMask 16 (right) and SuperMask 24 (left) Substrates. SuperMask 16 contains 16 wells in a 2 x 8 pattern, with the 2 x 8 reactive area spanning 16 x 70 mm and each well measuring 7 x 7 mm. SuperMask 24 contains 24 wells in a 3 x 8 pattern, with the 3 x 8 reactive area spanning 22 x 70 mm and each well measuring 6 x 7 mm. SuperMask Substrates contain a corner chamfer in the upper right corner of the substrate, which allows the user to unambiguously identify the side that contains the SuperMask hydrophobic partition as the partition always faces side-up when the corner chamfer appears in the upper right corner as the user holds the substrate. The SuperMask hydrophobic partition is 75 µm thick on a 0.94 mm glass substrate for a total thickness of approximately 1.015 mm. The 25 x 76 x 1.015 mm SuperMask Substrates are compatible with all industry standard open platform hardware and software products including all major brands of microarrayers and scanners.
How to select the right SuperMask product Users need to select the number of wells (16 or 24) and the surface chemistry required for a particular application (SuperClean 2, SuperAmine, SuperAmine 2, SuperAldehyde 2 or SuperEpoxy 2). ArrayIt® Super Microarray substrates support the full gamut of DNA and protein microarray applications, as well as many other applications. Please contact us directly if you need assistance selecting the well pattern or surface chemistry required for your application, either by email (arrayit@arrayit.com) or by telephone (408-744-1331).
Figure 2. Shown are the surface chemistries available for the SuperMask 16 and SuperMask 24 Substrates, including polished atomically flat glass ready for custom chemistry (SuperClean), polished atomically flat glass containing positively charged reactive amine groups for electrostatic binding of DNA, proteins, and other molecules (SuperAmine), polished atomically flat glass containing reactive aldehyde groups for covalent binding of DNA, proteins, and other molecules (SuperAldehyde), and polished atomically flat glass containing highly reactive epoxide groups for covalent binding of DNA, proteins, and other molecules (SuperEpoxy). ,SuperMask 16 contains 16 wells in a 2 x 8 pattern and SuperMask 24 contains 24 wells in a 3 x 8 pattern.
